Your Life Operating Map

Do you consume a lot of information, but donโ€™t know how to โ€œmap it outโ€? ๐Ÿค”

For the past 3 years, Iโ€™ve read many self-help books. Books on:

  • finance,
  • business,
  • success,
  • time management,
  • organization,
  • psychology, and
  • philosophy

Using these, Iโ€™ve built a mental map in my mind, about how I operate in life.

Letโ€™s begin navigating through this map!

๐ŸŒ Purpose and Principles

This is how you operate in life, daily.

This is your definition of what you were born for.

Your principles will help you decide what you say โ€œYesโ€ or โ€œNoโ€, to.

On the map, these are your navigation rules.

๐Ÿ”ญ Vision

This is your idealized future state.

If everything went perfectly, this is how your life would look like.

Your vision embodies your purpose and principles in life.

This is where we want to end up.

On the map, this is the end goal, the final post of our journey.

๐ŸŽฏ Goals and Objectives

These define the road between our current state and our future state (our vision).

Every goal should bring you at least one step closer to your vision. If not, then ditch the goal.

On the map, these are our intermediary steps/milestones.

๐Ÿ”ฌ Areas of Focus and Accountability

Once youโ€™ve defined your goals, you must assume certain responsibilities to achieve them.

To achieve each goal, you have to define an area of focus and accountability.

All of these collectively, will define your everyday activities.

These should answer questions like:

  • What should I focus on?
  • What am I accountable for?
  • What are my responsibilities for today?

On the map, these are all the different activities youโ€™ll need to monitor, review and do.

๐Ÿ”€ Changes

Everything can change.

  • Your focus may shift.
  • Your goals may change.
  • Your vision may evolve into something different.
  • You may discover that your purpose and your principles in life need revision.

As you act, you get feedback. Some things may not turn out to be what you expected.

Thatโ€™s fine. Just adapt to everything that it affects.

Thereโ€™s no point in aiming towards goals that are no longer in sync with your vision.

TL;DR

๐Ÿงญ Your purpose and principles are your compass
๐Ÿ Your vision is your end goal, your finish line
๐Ÿšฉ Your goals are your intermediary milestones
โš™๏ธ Your areas of focus define your everyday activities to achieve all of the above
